About us

Vikasanand Mission initially got identity due to a personality. The same word began to enlighten a philosophical point of view. Then this word took shape as an institution. The question that arises here is, what exactly is Vikasanand mission? Vikasanand mission is a distribution centre of an infinite principle of life, a flow of pure sentience. This flow moved from an individual to a thought and got developed. This flow intends to conserve and protect the values of humanity. To understand the course of this flow, one has to understand its speed, its direction and to understand it in and out, it is mandatory to understand the person who is the origin of this flow.

This flow of ‘Development of a human-being’ i.e. Vikasanand mission went on growing. Followers began to grow. They were enthralled by the carefree, joyful thought-process. This flow took a wonderful shape. Gradually people got united into an institution. Swami Vikasanandji established these power houses (Shakti-kendras) for fulfillment of the objectives of the mission:

1. Vikas Ashram, Nagpur (Maharashtra) Year 1954
2. Gangadhar Ashram, Kharda, Calcutta (West Bengal) Year 1965
3. Shriram Mandir, Hasda, Raipur (Madhya Pradesh) Year 1971
4. Vitthal Mandir, Savangi, Vardha (Maharashtra) Year 1971
5. Shripad Ashram, Gwarighat, Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Year 1975
6. Mata Vajreshwari Mandir, Shahapura (Madhya Pradesh) Year 1977
7. Kamlasan (Baglamukhi), Akola (Maharshtra) Year 1979
8. Rudra Hanuman Mandir, Emabadodiya, Indore (Madhya Pradesh) Year 1982
9. Shri Saibaba Mandir, Emabadodiya, Indore, M.P. – 1984

Respected Swami Vikasanandji entrusted the responsibility of all the ashrams established by him to his devotees, in the form of a trust, when he was still alive. He did not keep the scope of his work to just development of humanity in a person but in his Indore ashram, he started ‘Arundhati Medical centre’ and in Nagpur he established, ‘Vasanti Primary school and development clinic’. His primary objective was to make medical and educational facilities available for the lower rung of the society. This cause is being served even today.

His Birth and Early Life

Renowned Swami Vikasanand was born on 3rd July 1915 at Mohandi , Dhamrari district , Raipur, Chattisgarh, in a middle-class family. His father was Gunvantrao Lambe and mother, Janaki. He, Balvant Lambe, as their eldest son had an ordinary childhood. As a child, he was slightly detached, he loved solitude and was an introvert. It seemed as if some divine power was controlling his life. During a family-visit to Badrinath, an ascetic addressed him with the words, ‘In order to fulfill the task that destiny has entrusted to you, you will have to come to me in future.’ Mr. Balvant Lambe took up a job as an insurance officer in order to earn a living. He got married to Miss Leelabai. A good-looking wife, economic stability, social prestige; he had everything that a person could want from life. He was known in the society as Babasaheb. He had a melodious voice and great inclination for singing.

Path to Divinity

In April 1941, Babasaheb’s life began to change. Like any other ordinary person, in spite of prosperity, he was not happy in his day-to-day life. He felt a strange restlessness and detachment. What next? This was the major question before him. In 1941, suddenly Babasaheb became seriously ill. He had high fever. Doctors could not diagnose the condition. He was unconscious for 15 days.
During that period, he was muttering philosophical premises in English and Bengali. One day, he suddenly became fit. He had no memory of what had happened. This incident occurred again and again. His family was worried. Several types of treatment were given. He had left his job too. He himself was very disturbed. In this disturbed state of mind, he left his house. Dejected, hungry and thirsty, he reached Khandwa and while he was sitting somewhere, he was startled by a sound –
‘Baba, finally you have come’. A beggar-like person was beckoning him to come. He gave him a dry roti to eat and said, ‘Go towards north. That is the right direction.’ Babasaheb went straight to Haridwar. After two months of troubled life, he felt like submerging in the Ganges but someone tapped on his back. It was the same ascetic. He consoled him and Babasaheb returned back home. Repeated incidences of fever and other abnormalities continued. From 1942 to 1949, Babasaheb spent his time in severe spiritual penance at Khairagad, near Mother Bamleshwari Dongergadh.

Later Life

On 31st December, 1949, Babasaheb was lying unconscious. He began to speak, ‘Now I need not appear in future through this body. I have enabled the person in this body with spiritual prowess completely. He will now be known as Swami Vikasanand and he will take up the work of social upliftment as directed.’
With his spiritual penance, Swami Vikasanandji used the medium of Bhajan for uniting and awakening people. His following went on increasing. Devotees with fear in their minds about unsure future; would come to him for fulfillment of their desires. However, Swamiji never gave a boon of fulfillment of desires. He kindled confidence in those shaky feet and gave encouragement to keep on proceeding on the path of duty. He never crippled anyone with blessings.
In January 1958, Swami Vikasanandji presented his mission of life, ‘Life Living Livelihood’ along with a logo and message; to his followers. This logo in all the ashrams of Swamiji is a representation of these objectives.
What is so special in this personality and this thought-process that it captivated such a huge section of masses? This is fanaticism for sure. It is human tendency to bow before greatness but here we see an urge to submit oneself to that greatness, faith in values of life, firm belief in one’s deeds and kindness in behaviour. This madness is a trance but is disciplined. The power houses established by Swamiji are continuously active in fulfilling the three objectives of following the religion of being human, taking steps for emancipation and enjoying proximity of saintly men.
Just as the inclination for development got manifested, the personality and the thought spread beyond bounds. It got converted from ‘I’ to ‘We’ and a person became an institution.
Swamiji expresses the secret truth of life and profound spiritual knowledge in simple language that could be easily followed, in these words: ‘A human-being behaving with another like a human-being is true worship of God.’
Revered Swami Vikasanandji was himself a great yogi and yet he mingled with his disciples like a devotee. It is our good fortune that we got the benefit of seeing such a person with divine consciousness.
Swami Vikasanandji’s journey of life was fulfilled on 17 March 1989. In 1990, his devotees established his memorial in Shripad Ashram at Jabalpur and directed their faith there.
